Achieve More with a Mentor

“I wish I knew then what I know now”.

It can take years to become the successful business person that you want to be, but you can shorten your learning curve by using a mentor.

The insights, advice and support of an experienced person in your field can help you avoid the mistakes and pitfalls that you may encounter by going it alone.  By having a mentor you can shortcut your way to success.

My Mentors

I’ve had multiple mentors over the years.  One that immediately comes to mind is Palmo, my mentor at a communication and leadership organization of which we are both members.  I joined this organization many years ago to become a better public speaker.  Palmo taught me the value of having a clearly defined purpose in my speeches and how to incorporate humor.   His creative skills complemented my leadership skills and the mentor/mentee partnership has gone on to create and implement several successful projects.

From Marvin and Frank, two of my mentors and scientific supervisors during my career, I learned excellence and intregrity in medical research.   Both are world leaders in our field and I am very privileged to have learned from them.  I also learned the value of strong leadership and a good team.

When I decided to pursue a life long dream of creating my own business I again went looking for the mentors.

I had several criteria for choosing a business mentor. I was looking for an individual that had demonstrated success in their careers and had the communication skills and willingness to share their expertise with others.  They also had to have a style that resonated with me.

Rich Schefren – Business Leader and Mentor

One such business mentor is Rich Schefren, the “Guru to the Gurus” and founder of Strategic Profits.   I really like the way this guy thinks. He is a Big Picture Kind of Guy and makes a person think in different ways about how to structure one’s own business.  And he is Passionate about his topic.

Rich has coached many of the big names in business and online marketing and his clients normally pay a fortune for his services.   He is the kind of guy conference organizers pay $25,000 to speak to their audiences.  Those costs put his one-on-one coaching out of range for most small business owners.

Take a look around your industry and find three business leaders that can be your mentors.
